Illustrative report 800 words

My illustrative report for my two films

Introduction

My report will be focused on the first Karate Kid made in 1984 and the remake of the Karate Kid made in 2010. The report will cover the way the story is told and how it has changed, also the techniques that are used throughout the films. For example, Mise en scene and sound effects etc. However, finding the relationship between the two films will be valid for this report as well as knowing the specifics about the production of each film.

The use of the american culture and the chinese culture blending together evaluates the storyline and how they will introduce one another's cultures throughout the film. For example, the normal living life of an american person and then the karate fighting tournaments and training they pursue throughout the films.

The producer for the first Karate Kid film was Jerry Weintraub and the director was John G. Avildsen. Also for the remake of the karate Kid, the producers where Will Smith, Jerry Weintraun, Jada Pinkett Smith, Ken Stovitz and James Lassiter. And the director was Harald Zwart.

The stars in the first Karate Kid would be Randee Heller, Frances Bay, Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio. However, for the remake the stars are Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan and Taraji P. Henson.

The budget assigned for the first Karate Kid was 8 million dollars. However, for the remake of the film its budget assigned was 40 million dollars mainly because of the cost of everything increasing  throughout the years, especially a specific place they would want to have a scene in or items they need to film for example cameras.

Both countries, america and china funded for both films since the Sony corporation was involved, Columbia pictures and the Chinese film group corporation.

These films where both internationally co-produced since more than one production company helped to make the films.

Both of these films would be considered a mainstream film since there where specific stars that their audience would want to see at that time. Also they have high production values and are both very entertaining.

The chinese government granted the filmmakers access to the Forbidden City and The Great Wall Of China. Having this access through the government would count as a funding body, since they had access to film within a specific private area.

For the technology production, high tech cameras and equipment where used to film both films. But for the remake of the film, they extended more equipment and cameras since new technology was created and was able to be used for film production in 2010.

20101984

The production company that distributed the first Karate Kid was the Columbia pictures and for the remake, Sony pictures distributed the 2010 remake.

2010 1984

The cinemas and theatres that released these films where Warner village cinema and ODEON for the first Karate kid made in 1984. And for 2010, VUE would have been a valuable cinema for releasing this film, since it is a popular cinema company and lots of people watch films from VUE still today.

Both films are involved as a dramatic sport genre. But for the remake of The Karate Kid it included comedy throughout the film. However, in 2010 there seemed to be elements of comedy throughout this year a lot including Toy Story 3, Despicable Me and Shrek Forever After.

For the first film of the Karate Kid, There where four awards given to individuals within the Karate Kid film, and one given to the production for the film which was the Young artist awards. Firstly, Pat Morita earned the academy award. Then again Pat Morita earned the Golden Globes award. Furthermore, Elisabeth Shue earned the Young artist award as well as William Zabka.

However, for the remake of the film, there where won awards and nominated awards given to actors that where involved in the remake of the Karate Kid. For example, Jackie Chan won the Favourite action star award. Also, including Jackie Chan again but with Jaden Smith, they where announced and nominated as the Favourite on-screen team. And lastly, for the actual film, it was nominated as the Favourite family film.

There was no sequel for the remake of the film. But there was a sequel for the first Karate Kid which was called 'The Karate Kid Part II'.

The production company for the 2010 remake was Columbia pictures. And for the 1984 film there where multiple but I would say Delphi II Productions was the main production company.

For film distribution and cinemas owned by the production companies. Sony has their own cinema that includes specific places that you can watch movies from their cinemas. Below are examples.

Other production companies could not be found with valid information about having their own cinemas. But the Columbia pictures do allow film distribution.

I would conclude that these films are different mainly because of the scenery, where the film was placed and the different actors used. Also, the mise en scene/ props where different for example, Jaden Smith had his jacket to train himself and for Ralph Macchio, chores where given to him to learn the basics of Karate. But, on the other hand, there was a storyline with one another that weren't exactly the same but very similar, and could remind you of the other Karate Kid film.
